The National Barrel Horse Association of Australia (NBHA Australia) is a non-profit, volunteer-run organisation supporting barrel racing across the country since 2008. Built on the divisional (4D) format, NBHA provides a structured and fair competition system for riders of all skill levels.

NBHA Australia is fully affiliated with the International Barrel Horse Federation, with all events run in line with international rules and standards. The district system is designed to keep competition fair while reducing travel demands for members, with 11 districts currently operating across Australia.

The 4D format divides competitors based on time margins, allowing riders of varying abilities to compete against others at a similar level. This structure gives all members the opportunity to compete for prize money and placings.

The 4D Format

NBHA is the largest barrel racing organisation in the world. Australian members have the opportunity to qualify for the NBHA World Championships held annually in Perry, Georgia (USA), representing Australia on an international stage.

For more information on qualifying and attending the World Championships, please refer to the NBHA Australia World Qualifier Information and required waiver forms.
